The “Swamp Shop” at the Kennedy Space Center in the United States is one of NASA’s most unique R&D environments, known for its creative development of new tools and technologies for deep space exploration.
Recently, NASA’s “Swamp Workshop” demonstrated an in-situ resource utilization system, the Martian “fuel factory.” This system puts all the instruments into a “small box” and transports it to Mars, allowing it to produce and store fuel, water, and oxygen on its own.
All of this requires high-precision positioning control of the robot’s arm joints and precise speed control of the bucket. Elmo’s mini servo drive fully meets these demanding requirements and is therefore used to power the ten-axis RASSOR robot. Its compact size helps reduce the robot’s weight and size, ensuring smoother and more stable movement. Its high power output and extremely stable performance help the robot withstand the severe vibrations caused by sliding or tumbling off the Martian rocks. It also improves overall efficiency by optimizing battery operation.
