Elmo paper wins first prize at SPS/IPC/Drives Italia 2018 for its discussion of how OEMs and end-users can leverage smart drives and controls to deliver better products at a lower price – without an expensive retrofit.

Customers today demand more for less -better performance, higher quality, greater functionality, but at a lower price. Smart manufacturing shows promise as a way to help manufacturers meet those expectations. Unfortunately, some implementations can be quite expensive. As a result, manufacturers face a paradox – how to build products that deliver more but costs less using equipment that delivers more and costs more. In “The Paradox of Smart Manufacturing,” author Davide Fuoco will discuss how new drive and control technology can boost the throughput of existing robots and equipment while reducing footprint, energy consumption, and system downtime. He will also present a case study covering a company that used these techniques to boost throughput by a staggering 50%.
